Music & Cultural Activities using Videos from YouTube

Here's a Maná video I found on YouTube. I have it embedded here, but you could also link out in an online class. If your school or school district blocks YouTube, use Zamzar to convert the YouTube video into a movie you can download onto your computer and then show to your class or upload to an online environment.

An activity might be to send students to learn more about the group on Wikipedia and then answer questions. Some possible questions:

1)In this performance, Maná sing three songs, one with a very popular singer. What is this singer's name? (Fher says his name at the end of the song and there is info on this singer on the Wikipedia page).

2)Where is this singer from?

3)What kind of music does this singer play?

4)What other famous singer has the group collaborated with?

5)What is the name of the song they did with that singer?

6)What kinds of influences on Maná's music do you hear? What influences did you read about on Wikipedia?

7)How long has Maná been together?

8)Where are the majority of the group members from?

9)Do you like the music you hear on the video? Which song do you like best? Why?

I love the music of this group. I've used their lyrics in class before as a cloze activity, and also some translation activities.
I am delighted to see what you have done with it. I hope to be able to also do this! :)
